Profile of Kumbhandas

A poet of Ashtachap, he was a disciple of Vallabhacharya. He was born in Jamunavati village, near the fabled Govardhan Parvat. He had farms near Parsauli Chandrasarovar. Here, he lived with his son Chaturbhuj Das. When the fame of his poems reached Akbar, he was summoned to the court. In this context, his verse, ‘Bhakt ko kahaa siikri so kaam,’ is famous.
