yaar ḳhud jalva-numā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
ġhuncha-o-gul meñ basā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
ḳhud hī gulshan banā aur ḳhud hī banā ġhuncha-o-gul
ḳhud hī bulbul vo banā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
shakl-e-ahmad hai haqīqat meñ ahad kī sūrat
parda-e-mīm paḌā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
kah ke fī-anfusikum us ne batāyā mujh ko
ḳhāna-e-dil meñ chhupā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
faiz se ‘bāqī-o-‘fayyāz’ ke samjhā hai 'fidā'
varna ye bhed chhupā thā mujhe ma'alūm na thā
