Forty-Fourth Assembly (Khwan-Pur-Nemat)
Forty-Fourth Assembly (Khwan-Pur-Nemat)
Sheikh Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri
MORE BYSheikh Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri
Qazi Ashrafuddin said: If someone dreams that, on a fast day, all the Muslims are eating, what would that mean? The Venerable Master replied: This dream is interpreted as referring to back-biting, for this breaks the fast, in accordance with the tradition: 'There are many whose fasting does not extend beyond hunger and thirst, which has also been interpreted as referring to back-biting.
Sheikh Muizzuddin enquired: Does the Ihya accord merit to this night as to the 'Shab-e-Qadr' (Night of Power)? He replied: Whoever spends the whole of this night in worshipping God Almighty will acquire the merit of a thousand months, or even more, as it has been said: 'The Night of Power is better than a thousand months, but a thousand fixed months, as is found in the following story. There was an Israelite who fasted by day and also fought, while he passed the night in vigil. In this manner a thousand months went by. Once it so happened that this story was mentioned in the assembly of the Apostle. The companions wanted an explanation, saying: 'What sort of an age do we have for becoming engrossed? We should have such an age as to be able to perform this type of worship.' In that assembly this chapter was revealed: 'If that Israelite passed a thousand months in worship and submission, what We have bestowed on you during the 'Shab-e-Karamat' (Night of Mercy) exceeds that bestowed on that Israelite in a thousand months so that all who keep vigil on this night will receive more merit from Us than he received in a thousand months.
NOTES AND REFERENCES
1. Fighting in a holy war is presumably meant, as the action is supposed to be highly meritorious. The example is totally unreal.
2. This is another name for Shab-i Qadr'. This is a Sufi tradition, not a Qur'anic verse.
