Thirty-Second Assembly (Khwan-Pur-Nemat)

Sheikh Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri

MORE BYSheikh Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri

The Helpless One asked whether people could take back what they have given to another person. The Venerable Master replied: There are seven situations in which it is not correct to take back what one has given away. He then recited the following judicial couplet:

After bestowing a gift can one take it back again? O friend, see the following mnemonic.

Afterwards he added: 'Dama' Khaziqah' contains seven Arabic letters. Each represents a prohibition for taking back a gift. Afterwards he explained the seven letters in this fashion: d-extremely close connections; m-death of one party; '(i.e. 'Ain)-substitution; kilos of the thing given, either by sale or gift; z-married state; q-relationship; h-the destruction of the thing offered. ¹
