bayān-e-tavakkul-o-tark-e-jahd guftan-e-nkHchīrāñ ba-sher

Setting forth how the beasts of chase told the lion to trust in God and cease from exerting himself.

tā.ifa nakHchīr dar vādī-e-kHush

buuda and az sher andar kashmakash

A number of beasts of chase in a pleasant

valley were continually harassed by a lion.

bas ki aañ sher az kamīñ dar miiñ rubūd

aañ charā bar jumla nā-ḳhush gashta buud

In as much as the lion was (springing) from ambush and carrying them away,

that pasturage had become unpleasant to them all.

hiila kardand āmdand īshāñ ba-sher

kaz vazīfa mā torā dārem ser

They made a plot: they came to the lion, saying,

We will keep thee full-fed by means of a (fixed) allowance.

juz vazīfa dar pa.e saide miyā

tā na-gardad talḳh bar mā iiñ giyā

Henceforth do not come in quest of any prey in order

that this grass may not become bitter to us.

They made a plot: they came to the lion, saying,

ta na-gardad talKH bar ma in giya

Henceforth do not come in quest of any prey in order

that this grass may not become bitter to us.
