maem za-dard-e-’ishq bimar
maa.em za-dard-e-’ishq bīmār
vaz soḳhtagān-e-mehra-e-dil-dār
We are ailing with the pain of love,
and scorched by the fire of the beloved’s affection.
saudā zada-e-junū-e-’ishqem
rusvā shuda-e-ba-kū-o-bāzār
We are mad and possessed with the frenzy of love,
disgraced and dishonoured in the bazaars and streets.
be-rū-e-tū niist chashm raushan
be-’ishq-e-tū niist baḳht bedār
Without you, these eyes hold no radiance or light,
and without your love, no fortune awakens.
'ahmad' za jamāl-e-āñ parī-rū
dīvāna shudem be-ḳhud-o-zār
Ahmad, by the beauty of that fairy-faced beloved,
we are lost in rapture and driven to madness.
