Hussain bin Mansoor Hallaj was born in 858 AH in Persia. He was a Sufi, writer and poet. His full name was Abul Mughis Al-Hussain ibn Mansoor Hallaj. His father, Mansoor, was a dresser of cotton by profession, so he was called Hallaj. He was born in Al-Tur, a town in northeastern Persia. Omar's early life was spent in the Iraqi city of Wasit. Then he came to Baghdad and joined Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi's circle of students. He spent most of his life traveling. He traveled to many countries including the Arabian Peninsula and Khorasan. Mansoor Hallaj was a believer in the Oneness of God and used to chant the slogan “Anal-Haq” or "I am the Truth".He was arrested for the first time on the basis of the fatwa of Ibn Daud Al-Isfahani, then for the second time and held captive for eight consecutive years, and was finally crucified. After the martyrdom of Mansoor Hallaj, one group of scholars called him an infidel and a heretic and another group, including great Sufis such as Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi and Sheikh Fariduddin Attar, called him Wali and Shaheed-e-Haq, that is a martyr in the way of God. Hallaj wrote numerous books and treatises on Sufism and the method of Sufism and his specific beliefs and ideologies. He was martyred in Baghdad in 922 AH.
