gar shadi-e-KHweshtan daran mi-dani
gar shādī-e-ḳhveshtan darāñ mī-dānī
ki āsūda dile rā ba-ġhame ba-nishānī
dar mātam-e-’aql-e-ḳhvesh ba-nashīñ hama-'umr
mīdār musībat ki 'ajab nādānī
If thou knowest that thy delight is in turning a blithe soul into one that is sorrow stricken spend thy life in mourning and lamentations for the degradation of thy own mind, for it is strangely perverse (to desire another's pain).
