dar pesh nihāda kalla-e-kaikā.ūs
bā-kalla hamī guft ki afsos afsos
kū baañg jaras-hā-o-kujā nā'ra-e-kūs
I saw a bird sitting on the dome of a palace of 'Tus', it had before it the skull of king Kaikaus; and was addressing it thus-
O! alas, alas, where are the clanging bells and the beat of drums.
