MORE BYUnknown

In fire temples, a creature is created in the shape of a lizard, and it sustains its life solely on fire. It is known as Samandar, also spelled as Saminder, Samandal, or Samandūr. These terms are derived from the Persian words sām (fire) and andūr (inside). It is said that this creature emerges in a place where a fire has been continuously burning for a thousand years. If it comes out of the fire, it instantly perishes.

It is said that Iranians used to make handkerchiefs from the skin of this creature. When these handkerchiefs became dirty, they were cleaned by placing them in the fire.
