Profile of Hafeez Jalandhari
Hafeez Jalandhari, an eminent poet was born in 1900 in Jalandhar, Punjab. He was hardly seven when he started composing verses and composed his first ghazal at the age of eleven. His father, a school teacher tried to persuade him to stay away from poetry and apply himself to his studies. However at the age of twelve Hafeez left the school and all formal education. Hafeez's contribution to Urdu poetry both in quality and quantity is substantial. He published a total of seven collections of poetry, the best known of which is Naghma-zar (1925). He was also very much associated with Urdu journalism in Lahore and was the Chief Editor of Hazar Dastan. He died in 1982 in Lahore.
