Profile of Mirza Mazhar Jan-e-Janan
Mirza Mazhar Jan-e-Janan’s lineage goes back to Hazrat Maula Ali through Muhammad bin Hanfia. His father Mirza Jan was an official in the court of Sultan Aurangzeb Alamgir. When Sultan Alamgir got the news of Mirza Mazhar's birth, he said that the son is the soul of the father, since the father's name is Mirza Jan, he named his son Jan-e-Janan. His father Mirza Jan, who was a follower of Shah Abdul Rehman Qadri in the Qadri dynasty, passed away after his birth and Mazhar lived the rest of his life in mendicancy and contentment. He took his first lessons from his father, including reading the Holy Quran. The same was also taught by Qari Abdul Rahim and the knowledge of Hadith and Tafseer by Haji Muhammad Afzal Sialkoti. Apart from these sciences, Mirza Mazhar was also quite skilled in other arts. Especially in the art of warfare, you were so skilled that he would say that if twenty men drew their swords and attacked me and I had only one stick in my hand, not a single man could injure me. Mirza Mazhar Jan Janan was engaged to Syed Noor Mohammad Badawi at an early age. He pledged allegiance to him early on. The identity of Mirza Mazhar Jan-e-Janan is of great importance in various respects. He was not only a reformist Sufi but also a delightful seeker of the spells of true love, a master of Persian poetry and a reformer of the Urdu language. Khwaja Dard Dehlvi, Khwaja Ruknuddin Ishq and Mirza Mazhar Jan Janan are among the top poets who write poetry with aesthetic tastes and also use very easy language which can be understood by everyone. Mirza Mazhar Jan Janan was stabbed in the middle of the night by some thugs and passed away on the 7th of Muharram 1195 AH, 1781 AH.
