About The Author

Khwaja Ruknuddin Ishq belonged to the lineage of Abulolaiya. Khwaja Ruknuddin Ishq's grandfather Khwaja Shah Muhammad Farhad Dehlvi was a disciple and caliph of Syedna Ameer Abulola and was a disciple and caliph of Hazrat Syed Dost Muhammad Burhanpuri. His earlier education was spiritual and religious according to the order. When Durrani's attack had destroyed Delhi, people were forced to say goodbye to Delhi. Ishq went to Nawab Mir Qasim and became an officer of a thousand cavalry. He did not like military service and moved to Azimabad (Patna). There, he started attending Makhdoom Munem Pak's Majlis as he had wanted to swear allegiance to his grandfather's disciple and caliph Maulana Burhanuddin Khuda-Nama since childhood so he went to Lucknow adjacent to Khalispur and swore allegiance to Maulana Burhanuddin Khuda-Nama. After taking the oath of allegiance, Sharaf returned to Azimabad. He liked Azimabad so much that he made it a permanent home. He also had the permission and guidance of Makhdoom Munem Pak. Khwaja Ishq founded a monastery for growth and guidance and this Takiya became known as Ishq which is now called Bargah-e-Ishq. Prominent poets like Mirza Muhammad Ali Fidvi have been his disciples. There is a seven hundred page Urdu text in his writings. A Persian Diwan and a few manuscripts written on Sufism are relics of Khwaja Ishq. One of them is the Sufi treatise "Amwaj-ul-Buhhaar".
