koī tilism-e-ḳhvāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

vo shaḳhs ik sarāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

ḳhush to bahut the saath samandar kā paake log

jo kuchh thā zer-e-āb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

tā umr jis kitāb meñ uljhe rahe the ham

vo ishq kā nisāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

vo kam-suḳhan to auroñ pe kahtā rahā bahut

ham se hī ijtināb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

ham jis kī ḳhaak chhān ke aa.e the dar-ba-dar

vo yuuñ hī dastiyāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

ham jis ko sā.ebān samajhte the mustaqil

sar par koī sahāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā

'at.har' kī sāf-goī ye mashkūk the sabhī

vo to khulī kitāb thā ye ba.ad meñ khulā
