An Ailing Man Visited by the Prophet - Daftar-e-Dom
Interesting Fact
अनुवादः मिर्ज़ा निज़ाम शाह लबीब
A long-time friend of the prophet Mohammad became unwell. He had lost a lot of weight and had become an invalid due to his inability to eat. The prophet went to pay his old acquaintance a visit after hearing about his sorry plight. As he entered the sick man's chamber, he recognized that the elderly man's fate was sealed and that he was swiftly approaching death. As a result, he paid close attention to his friend and sought to comfort him with pleasant words. The old guy was overjoyed and grateful to find the prophet seated alongside him as if he'd been given a second chance at life.
He mumbled feebly, My ailment has brought me this incredible money! It's the prophet himself who's come to see me! What a wonderful start to the day! I'm so grateful for all my aches and pains since they've helped bring the prophet to my side! In my old age, God has granted me my wish. He's caused me such a bad backache that I can't sleep at night because of it, but this isn't a torture; in fact, it's my prize! Before I died, my prayers were answered.
When the prophet heard the old man pleading for agony, he was perplexed.
Old friend, based on your remarks, I believe you have really been praying incorrectly. You might well have thought you were begging God for pleasant favors, but your erroneous utterances have brought you a great deal of misfortune! You seem to be begging for poisoned meals rather than wishing for a long, healthy life. What was the name of the prayer you said?
The wretched man groaned, I can hardly recall, I'm in such misery. But wait, he replied feebly, being in your presence is beginning to clear my head a bit. I felt bad for a number of sins I'd committed and was terrified of God's wrath. I was impatient and felt undeserving of even attempting to repent. I clung to anything I could to stay afloat, like a drowning man. I begged that He would inflict all of hell's tortures on me while I was still living, so that when I died, I may finally find peace. I'm in so much pain and suffering right now that I can't recall any of my prayers, much less even what my sins were! Your thoughtful visit meant a lot to me, and your reassuring words brought me a lot of delight. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
Be alert, and never repeat such a prayer! the prophet said, his face filled with sadness. Why do you want to sever your own roots with your bare hands? You're nothing more than a tiny, helpless ant crawling around in the grand scheme of things. Why would you encourage a mountain's weight to crush your back? The prophet retorted.
I apologize, wonderful prophet; I would never again try to outwit anyone.
Ask God for a life that is easier to bear, not one that is more severe than you can bear. Ask God for nothing but good in this life and the next! Request that your route leads you through flower-filled gardens, taking you back to Allah, who ought to be your final destination.
After a few more minutes, the prophet left, knowing that the old man didn't have much longer to live, and wished him a safe journey to a world that might be easier than the one he had dreamed up for himself on Earth.
