hājat haram hai na sanam-ḳhāna chāhiye

    zauq-e-sujūd ko dar-e-jānāna chāhiye

dil meñ nahīñ hai koī tamannā na aarzū

    bas ek tiir nargis-e-mastāna chāhiye

sūrat meñ us sanam ḳhudā ko to liyā

ab aur kyā tujhe dil-e-dīvāna chāhiye

uTThī nigāh-e-nāz to rindoñ ne ye kahā

    is chashm-e-mast-e-nāz paimāna chāhiye

jannat aarzū hai na hūroñ hai talab

    har lamha sāmne rū-e-jānāna chāhiye

be-kār hai ye zohd ye taqvā ki husn ko

sab kuchh luTā de jo vahī dīvāna chāhiye

'kāvish' azal se maiñ huuñ fidā-e-abū-turāb

un ke sivā kisī na yārāna chāhiye

hajat haram ki hai na sanam-KHana chahiye

    zauq-e-sujud ko dar-e-jaanana chahiye

dil mein nahin hai koi tamanna na aarzu

    bas ek tir nargis-e-mastana chahiye

surat mein us sanam ki KHuda ko to pa liya

ab aur kya tujhe dil-e-diwana chahiye

uTThi nigah-e-naz to rindon ne ye kaha

    is chashm-e-mast-e-naz ka paimana chahiye

jannat ki aarzu hai na huron ki hai talab

    har lamha samne ru-e-jaanana chahiye

be-kar hai ye zohd ye taqwa ki husn ko

sab kuchh luTa de jo wahi diwana chahiye

'kawish' azal se main hun fida-e-abu-turab

un ke siwa kisi ka na yarana chahiye
