mulāqāt-e-bādshāh ba-āñ tabīb-e-ilāhī ki dar kHvābash bashārat daada būdand ba-mulāqāt-e-ū
The meeting of the king with the saint whose coming had been shown to him in a dream.
dast ba-gushād-o-kanārānash giraft
ham-chu 'ishq andar dil-o-jānash giraft
He (the king) opened his hands and clasped him to his
breast and received him, like love, into his heart and soul,
dast-o-peshānīsh bosīdan giraft
az maqām-o-rāh pursīdan giraft
And began to kiss his hand and brow and
inquire concerning his home and journey.
purs pursāñ mī-kashīdash tā ba-sadr
guft ganje yāftam āḳhir ba-sabr
(So) with many a question he led him to the dais. At last,
said he, I have found a treasure by being patient.
guft ai hadia-e-haq-o-dafa' haraj
ma'anī-e-assabr miftāh-ul-faraj
He said (also), O light of God and defence against trouble,
(O thou who art) the meaning of ‘Patience is the key of joy’!
ai laqā-e-tū javāb-e-har savāl
mushkil az tū hal shavad be-qīl-o-qāl
O thou whose countenance is the answer to every question,
by thee hard knots are loosed without discussion.
tarjumānī har che mā rā dar dilast
dast-gīrī har ki pāyash dar gilast
Thou interpretest all that is in our hearts,
thou givest a helping hand to every one whose foot is in the mire.
marhabā yā mujtabā yā murtazā
in taġhib jā.al-qazā zāqal-fazā
Welcome, O chosen one, O approved one! If thou vanish,
Destiny will come (upon us) and the wide room will be straitened.
anta maulal-qaumi man-lā-yashtahī
qad radā kallā la-in.lam yantahi
Thou art the protector of the people. He that desires (thee)
not hath gone to perdition. Nay, verily, if he do not refrain…!
