MORE BYAhmad Shahjahanpuri

    dīdan-e-āñ yār-e-jānam ārzūst

    jalva-e-zāññ dil-sitānam ārzūst

To behold that soul of my soul is the longing of my heart,

And it is the vision of my beloved that I yearn for.

    shoḳhī-e-nāz-e-butānam ārzūst

    āfat-e-īmān-o-jānam ārzūst

I yearn for the coquettish grace of the beloved,

And for the struggle betwixt life and faith.

    jaañ fidā-e-āñ nigāh-e-mast-e-nāz

    ġhamza-e-zāñ dil-sitānam ārzūst

This life is devoted to those intoxicating glances,

And I yearn to be seized by his charms, his airs, his allure.

    'ahmadā' ḳhāk-e-rah-e-mai-ḳhāna-em

    himmat-e-pīr-e-muġhānam ārzūst

Ahmad, we remain cast upon the dust of the tavern,

For we yearn for the courage of the Mystic Mentor.
