dishab ki mi-rafti ayan ru karda az ma yak taraf
dīshab ki mī-raftī ayaañ rū karda az mā yak taraf
afganda kākul yak taraf zulf-e-chalīpā yak taraf
Yesterday, turning away from us all, O beloved, you walked off to one side — in such a manner that your forelocks fell to one side, and the curling locks tumbled gracefully.
sultān-e-ḳhubāñ mī-ravad gird-e-hujūm-e-āshiqāñ
chābuk savārāñ yak taraf miskīñ gadāyāñ yak taraf
The Beloved of all beloveds was passing by, surrounded by crowd of lovers; swift riders pressed on one side, while the poor and lowly beggars gathered on the other.
noshī shrāb-e-la.al-e-ū shud majlis-e-mā be-ḳhabar
jām-o-surāhī yak taraf mastān-e-rusvā yak taraf
From the wine of your ruby lips, our joyous gathering became so utterly intoxicated that goblets and flagons lay neglected on one side, while the disgraced lovers lay scattered on the other.
tā bar ruḳh-e-zebā-e-tū uftāda zāhid rā nazar
tasbīh-e-zohdash yak taraf māñda musallā yak taraf
When the ascetic’s gaze fell upon the radiance of your fair face, his prayer-beads slipped to one side, and the prayer-mat lay forsaken to the other.
be-chāra 'ḳhusrau'-e-ḳhasta rā ḳhuuñ reḳhtan farmūda ast
ḳhalqe ba-minnat yak taraf vaañ shoḳh tanhā yak taraf
And then the Beloved decreed the blood of wretched, broken-hearted Khusro to be spilt; the entire people, pleading in supplication, stood to one side — while the coquettish Beloved, unyielding, stood alone on the other.
