dil-bar-e-mastāna rā chashm barū-e-ki buud
baada ze dast-e-ki ḳhurd mast ba-bū-e-ki buud
Whose face did the enchanting beloved's gaze rest upon, and who held the wine in their hand that intoxicated with its fragrance?
rāh-e-hama-āshiqāñ aah na-dānam ki zad
dar saf-e-ushshāq baaz na.ara-e-hue ki buud
Alas, I do not know who plundered the path of the lovers, Who raised the powerful chant in the procession of lovers?
zulf-e-pareshān-e-ū rahzan-e-jān-e-ki shud
silsila-e-āshiqāñ halqa-e-mū-e-ki buud
Whose tangled locks caused chaos? Whose beloved became the guardian? Whose tresses formed the chain of lovers?
tal.at-e-tābān-e-ū aah ba-rū-e-ki taaft
halqa-e-gesū-e-ū tauq-e-gulū-e-ki buud
Whose shining face's beauty and whose hair formed the necklace around whose neck?
'ahmad'-e-dīvāna rā hech na-dānam ki kusht
kushtan-e-dīvānagāñ sheva-e-ḳhū-e-ki buud
I don't know who attacked Majnu Ahmed, nor do I know whose beloved was the favorite pastime of the madmen.
