    The heart’s unrest has mounted in love—may it climb ever higher. Once the heart was placed in the Beloved’s hands, the body became fragile, almost unreal.

    This fragility, when it deepens, is a token of love’s true completion.

    ba-tārāj-e-asīrāñ zulf-e-tū ayyār mī-dārad

    ba-ḳhūñ-rez-e-ġharībāñ chashm-e-tū ayyara-tar baada

    O Beloved! In the ruin of lovers your tresses stand ever vigorous;

    And in the shedding of the travellers blood upon the path of love, your eyes grow even more alert and keen.

    gar ai zāhid duā-e-ḳhair mī-goī marā iiñ go

    ki iiñ āvāra-e-kū-e-butāñ āvāra-tar baada

    O ascetic! If you wish to pray for my well-being, then pray in such a way that

    This wanderer of the street of beauties becomes even more wandering, even more angelic—that is, let this lover’s passion and madness increase.

    chu tar-dāmanī ḳhuuñ kard 'ḳhusrau' do chashm-e-tar

    ba-āb-e-chashm-e-mizgāñ dāmanash hamvāra-tar baada

    O Khusro! If your moist eyes have made a habit of remaining wet,

    Then let it be that the hem of your garment always remains drenched in tears.
