MORE BYAhmad Shahjahanpuri

    ishq-e-tū dar dil-e-man partav-e-rū-e-tū buud

    tarab-e-rūh-e-man-o-mastem az bū-e-tū buud

Your love was the radiance of your face within my heart.

The rapture of my soul and the intoxication of my spirit

    were but from your fragrance.

    sākinān-e-haram-o-dair-o-kalīsā-o-kunisht

    hama sajda-e-jāñ dar ḳham-e-abrū-e-tū buud

The dwellers of the sanctuary, the temple, the church and the cloister—

All bow before the curve of your brow.

    ba-ayāñ-o-ba-nihāñ-o-ba-haqīqat ba-majāz

    rū.-e-maḳhlūq-e-do-ālam taraf-e-rū-e-tū buud

In outward form, in inward essence, in reality and in metaphor,

The gaze of all creation is turned only towards you.

chuuñ ki dar anfus-o-āfāq ze-tū āyātast

    pas ba-har ki ba-dīdam ruḳh-e-nīko-e-tū buud

    Both the inner self and the vast universe are but your signs;

Thus, wherever I look, it is your comely face that appears.

    dīda-e-'ahmad'-e-be-dil ze-tamāshā-e-jamāl

ham chū ā.īna pur az partav-e-rū-e-tū buud

The enamoured Ahmad’s gaze is adorned by your beauty,

Like a mirror illumined with the reflection of your face.

    ishq-e-tu dar dil-e-man partaw-e-ru-e-tu bud

    tarab-e-ruh-e-man-o-mastem az bu-e-tu bud

Your love was the radiance of your face within my heart.

The rapture of my soul and the intoxication of my spirit

    were but from your fragrance.

    sakinan-e-haram-o-dair-o-kalisa-o-kunisht

All bow before the curve of your brow.

    ba-ayan-o-ba-nihan-o-ba-haqiqat ba-majaz

    ru-e-maKHluq-e-do-alam taraf-e-ru-e-tu bud

In outward form, in inward essence, in reality and in metaphor,

The gaze of all creation is turned only towards you.

chun ki dar anfus-o-afaq ze-tu aayatast

    pas ba-har su ki ba-didam ruKH-e-niko-e-tu bud

    dida-e-'ahmad'-e-be-dil ze-tamasha-e-jamal

hum chu aaina pur az partaw-e-ru-e-tu bud

The enamoured Ahmad’s gaze is adorned by your beauty,

Like a mirror illumined with the reflection of your face.
