KHush-tar az dauran-e-ishq ayyam nist

Saadi Shirazi

MORE BYSaadi Shirazi

    ḳhush-tar az daurān-e-ishq ayyām niist

    bāmadād-e-āshiqāñ shaam niist

Not a single day is better than the days of love,

There is no morning or evening for lovers.

mutribāñ raftand va suufī dar sama.a

    ishq āġhāz hast anjām niist

The singers have left, and the mystics are still in a state of listening,

Love has always a dawn; it has no conclusion.

    mastī az man purs-o-shor-e-āshiqī

aañ kujā dānad ki durd-āshām niist

Ask me about the intoxication and sound of love,

One who has not tasted dregs, how would they know its flavor.

    har kase nām-e-ma.ashūqe ki hast

    mī-burad ma.ashūq-e- naam niist

Everybody has a name for their beloved,

But my beloved has no name.

    'sa.adiyā' chuuñ but-shikastī ḳhud ma-bāsh

    ḳhud-parastī kam-tar az asnām niist

Oh Saadi! When you have broken the idol, abandon the arrogance and ego,

because idolatry and ego are equally futile.

    KHush-tar az dauran-e-ishq ayyam nist

    baamadad-e-ashiqan ra sham nist

Not a single day is better than the days of love,

There is no morning or evening for lovers.

mutriban raftand wa sufi dar sama

ishq ra aaghaz hast anjam nist

The singers have left, and the mystics are still in a state of listening,

Love has always a dawn; it has no conclusion.

    masti az man purs-o-shor-e-ashiqi

aan kuja danad ki durd-asham nist

Ask me about the intoxication and sound of love,

One who has not tasted dregs, how would they know its flavor.

har kase ra nam-e-mashuqe ki hast

    mi-burad mashuq-e- ra nam nist

Everybody has a name for their beloved,

But my beloved has no name.

    'sadiya' chun but-shikasti KHud ma-bash

    KHud-parasti kam-tar az asnam nist

Oh Saadi! When you have broken the idol, abandon the arrogance and ego,

because idolatry and ego are equally futile.
