mā āshiq-e-husn-e-rū-e-yārem
be-tāb ze-zulf-e-tābdārem
We are the lovers of our Beloved’s radiant face,
And by His flowing tresses we are left restless.
mā az do jahāñ ba-juz visālash
hech ārzū-e-digar na-dārem
In both worlds, nothing do we seek,
Save the bliss of His union.
az hastī-e-ḳhud nishāñ na-yābam
chuuñ mast ze-jām-e-vasl-e-yārem
Of our own being we know nothing at all,
For we are lost in the rapture of His embrace.
mā baada ze-la.al-e-yār noshem
az jām-o-subū ḳhabar na-dārem
From His crimson lips we drink our wine,
Of goblet or pitcher we have no concern.
āzād shudem az do-ālam
chuuñ basta-e-zulf-e-āñ nigārem
Freed are we from the griefs of both realms,
For we are bound within His locks.
ai 'auhadī' iiñ sharaf ba-mā bas
ḳhud rā ze-sagān-e-ū shumārem
O Auhadi, for me the highest honour is this—
That I may be numbered among His hounds.
