    āshiq-e-husn-e-rū-e-yārem

    be-tāb ze-zulf-e-tāb dārem

We adore our beloved’s beautiful face,

And lose all calm in the play of his flowing hair.

    az do-jahāñ ba-juz visālash

    hech ārzū-e-digar na-dārem

In both worlds, there is nothing we long for

Except the warmth of his nearness.

    ze-hastī-e-ḳhud nishāñ na-yābam

    chuuñ mast ze-jām-e-vasl-e-yārem

    We’ve forgotten what we are,

For love’s union has made us drunk.

    baada ze-la.al-e-yār noshem

    az jām-o-subū ḳhabar na-dārem

We drink from his soft crimson lips,

And know nothing of cups or wine.

    āzād shudem az do-ālam

    chuuñ basta-e-zulf-e-āñ nigārem

We are free from worldly grief,

Because his dark hair is our sweetest prison.

ai 'auhadī' iiñ sharaf ba-mā bas

    ḳhud ze-sagān-e-ū shumārem

O Auhadi, the highest honour for me

Is to belong, even humbly, to him.
