mā gadāyān-e-ḳhail sutānem
basar-e-mulk-e-ishq sultānem
We are the beggars of the kings' assembly and the kings of the land of love.
marham-e-sirr-e-lī-ma.allāh em
ālim-e-nukta-e-ḳhudā dānem
We are the confidants of God and we are the ones who possess knowledge of God's secrets.
chuuñ nazar bar jamāl-e-ḳhud kardem
āshiq-e-husn-e-ḳhvesh-o-hairānem
When we saw our own beauty and loveliness, we became enamored with our own beauty.
āyat-e-musahaf az jamāl-e-vajūd
az azal tā-abad hamī-ḳhvānem
We have been reading the verses of the Qur'an of the beauty of existence from eternity to eternity.
murġh-e-lāhūtī-em-o-tā.er-e-qudus
baaz ba-nigar ki mā che murġhānem
We are the sacred birds of the realm of transcendence. Look again to see what kind of birds we are.
gaah lailā-o-gāh majnūnem
gaah paidā-o-gāh pinhānem
Sometimes we are Layla, and sometimes Majnun. Sometimes we are visible, and sometimes we become hidden.
ham-chū 'ahmad' ba-halqa-e-rindāñ
rind-e-ḳhud-bāz-o-dard-e-mastānem
Like Ahmad, we are sometimes part of the circle of drunkards, and sometimes we are the ones who bear the pain of wine drinkers.
