tora dar KHud nihan darad dil-e-man
torā dar ḳhud nihāñ dārad dil-e-man
chunīñ shādī azaañ dārad dil-e-man
My heart longs to hide you within itself,
For there it finds its purest joy.
tuī baa-ū hamesha ḳhush ba-hālash
che 'aish-e-jāvedāñ dārad dil-e-man
You dwell ever in its gladness—
An eternal bliss has been bestowed upon my soul.
tu chuuñ māh-e-mane dīgar che hājat
ba-māh-e-āsmāñ dārad dil-e-man
You are my moon, my night’s sole light, And I crave no other wish or dream;
For the sky may keep its distant orb, But my moon rests here, close to my heart.
tu chuuñ dar ḳhāna-e-dīgar che kaarī
ba-sarv-e-bostāñ dārad dil-e-man
Why should one such as you care for another’s dwelling? Peer instead into my heart,
Where the garden’s cypress stands in stately grace.
faqat nām-e-torā goyad nigah kun
che ātish dar zabāñ dārad dil-e-man
Behold— It chants but your name, unceasingly;
Such fire flows from the tongue of my heart.
torā dārad darīñ duniyā-o-be-tū
ġham-e-duniyā bajā dārad dil-e-man
In all this world, there is only you,
And without you, my sorrow for the world is rightful.
gul-e-rūyat suḳhan-go karda-ū rā
ki chuuñ bulbul zabāñ dārad dil-e-man
When that flower-faced beauty speaks,
O my heart, it is as though the nightingale sings anew.
ba-mīrad gar suḳhan baa-ū na-goī
hayāt az aañ dahāñ dārad dil-e-man
If I could not speak with them, I would perish—
For in that converse lies the breath of my life.
dar aañ ḳhurshīd-e-rūyat mustaqar ast
bahār-e-be-ḳhizāñ dārad dil-e-man
The sun’s eternal home is your face;
O my heart, this spring shall never fade.
na-mānad harf-e-pīrī mā’niyash chīst
dil-ārām-e-javāñ dārad dil-e-man
The word ‘old age’ holds no meaning—
For my heart is content and forever young.
tora dar KHud nihan darad dil-e-man
chunin shadi azan darad dil-e-man
My heart longs to hide you within itself,
For there it finds its purest joy.
tui ba-u hamesha KHush ba-haalash
che 'aish-e-jawedan darad dil-e-man
You dwell ever in its gladness—
An eternal bliss has been bestowed upon my soul.
tu chun mah-e-mane digar che hajat
ba-mah-e-asman darad dil-e-man
You are my moon, my night’s sole light, And I crave no other wish or dream;
For the sky may keep its distant orb, But my moon rests here, close to my heart.
tu chun dar KHana-e-digar che kari
ba-sarw-e-bostan darad dil-e-man
Why should one such as you care for another’s dwelling? Peer instead into my heart,
Where the garden’s cypress stands in stately grace.
faqat nam-e-tora goyad nigah kun
che aatish dar zaban darad dil-e-man
Behold— It chants but your name, unceasingly;
Such fire flows from the tongue of my heart.
tora darad darin duniya-o-be-tu
gham-e-duniya baja darad dil-e-man
In all this world, there is only you,
And without you, my sorrow for the world is rightful.
gul-e-ruyat suKHan-go karda-u ra
ki chun bulbul zaban darad dil-e-man
When that flower-faced beauty speaks,
O my heart, it is as though the nightingale sings anew.
ba-mirad gar suKHan ba-u na-goi
hayat az aan dahan darad dil-e-man
If I could not speak with them, I would perish—
For in that converse lies the breath of my life.
dar aan KHurshid-e-ruyat mustaqar ast
bahaar-e-be-KHizan darad dil-e-man
The sun’s eternal home is your face;
O my heart, this spring shall never fade.
na-manad harf-e-piri ma’niyash chist
dil-aram-e-jawan darad dil-e-man
The word ‘old age’ holds no meaning—
For my heart is content and forever young.
