Haji Imdadullah was born in 1818 in Nanota district of Saharanpur. He was a Farooqi by descent. He became an orphan at the age of seven. He studied Persian and Arabic with innate bent towards it. He learned Tafsir, Hadith and Fiqh from Fazla Ajal. Later, he paid special attention to Hazrat Mian Ji Noor Mohammad Jhanjhanvi (Mianjo) and attained the Khilafah Kharqah. Thus, the process of growth and guidance began. He was a great Sufi saint and religious scholar. He took part in the War of Independence of 1857 against British imperialism. His followers included Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, Maulana Qasim Nanotavi, Maulana Muhammad Yaqub Nanotavi, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanawi, Maulana Faizul Hassan Saharan Puri, Shaykh-ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Al-Hassan and Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani. At the end of his life, he migrated from India to Mecca and lived there for the rest of his life. That's why immigrants are known as Makki. He authored about ten books on theology and Sufism, including Jihad-e-Akbar, Gulzar-e-Ma'rifat, Marqomat-e-Amdaya, Maktobat-e-Imdadia, Darnama-e-Ghazab-e-Nak, Zia-ul-Qulub. He died on October 17, 1896 in Mecca, and was buried in Jannat-ul-Maula.
