ayyam-e-shabab raft-o-shaitan na-rasid
ayyām-e-shabāb raft-o-shaitāñ na-rasīd
bar daman-e-man ġhubār-e-’isyāñ na-rasīd
piirī chu rasīd mā'siyat gasht javān
darde 'ajabī rasīd-o-darmāñ na-rasīd
Youth is past and the devil has been kept at bay :
My mantle is still free from the dust of sins ;
But alas ! with the arrival of old age sins have gained strength,
A strange affliction has seized me but no remedy is to be found.

darde 'ajabi rasid-o-darman na-rasid
