bar ru-e-zamin agar ba-mani do seh dam
bar rū-e-zamīñ agar ba-mānī do seh dam
mīnā-e-falak gar dehadat sāġhar-e-jam
zinhār ma-kun qubūl dil ḳhush na-barī
bisyār ḳhumār dārad iiñ nashsha-e-sam
If you are let to live for a short while.
And if the goblet of heaven grants you Jamshid’s cup,
Accept it not, for this will lead to grief.
This light intoxicating poison gives much headache.
