chun aamadanam ba-man na bad roz-e-naKHust
chuuñ āmadanam ba-man na bud roz-e-naḳhust
viiñ raftan be-murād azme-ast durust
barḳhez-o-miyāñ ba-band ai sāqī-e-chust
ki andoh-e-jahāñ ba-mai faro ḳhvāham shust
What, without asking, hither hurried WHENCE ?
And, without asking, WHITHER hurried hence !
Ah contrite Heav'n endowed us with the Vine
To drug the memory of that insolence !
