dauran-e-jahan be-mai-o-saqi hech ast
daurān-e-jahāñ be-mai-o-sāqī hech ast
be-zamzama-e-nā-e-’irāqī hech ast
har chand dar ahvāl-e-jahāñ mī-nigram
hāsil hama 'ishrat ast-o-bāqī hech ast
The time spent in this world without wine and beauty is futile (wastage), and so is life lived without the music of the lilting tunes of Iraqi flute, and thus however much I ponder over the world (and life), I find that pleasure is the one thing of value (to be attained) and all the rest is futile.
