'sarmad' ki za jām-e-'ishq mastash kardand
baalā kardand-o-bāz pastash kardand
mī-ḳhvāst ḳhudā-parastī-o-hushyārī
mastash kardand-o-but-parastash kardand
O Sarmad, they made thee intoxicated with the wine of love! Lifted thee up and again pulled thee down.
Thou desired to remain conscious and worship God ;
But they made thee tipsy and an idol worshipper !
