aaina-e-Sikandari (The Mirror of Alexander)
It is well-known that Alexander the ġhreat was the first to create a mirror. This mirror was used for the function of a telescope, revealing the entire city of Constantinople when lōked into. Even ships miles away in the sea could be seen in this mirror. Khwaja Hafez says:
Aaina-e-Sikandar jām-e-jamast be nigar
Tā bar tu arz dārad ahwāl-e-mulk daar
Translation: The cup of Jamshid is like the Mirror of Alexander, It reveals the conditions of the country up to your threshold.
In Persian poetry, the word 'Jam' is used in reference to Jamshid, Alexander, and Prophet Solomon. Therefore, the Mirror of Alexander is also referred to as the Mirror of Jam.
