During the rule of Zahhak, there was a blacksmith named Kawah in Isfahan. His four children were offered as sacrifices to Zahhak's snakes. The tyranny of Zahhak troubled the people, and witnessing the oppression, a fervor was kindled in Kawah's heart. He closed his shop, tore his bellows, and made a banner out of it.

As Iranians saw his banner, they gathered around it, and together they took an oath to teach Zahhak a lesson. Kawah led this army forward. Jamshid's son, Faridun, also joined him. Together, they defeated Zahhak's army, and Kawah's victory spread throughout Iran. He placed Faridun on the throne of Iran.

From that day on, this banner became a symbol of victory. Faridun declared it the national flag. Subsequent kings after Faridun greatly respected this banner. During the rule of Yazdagird III, in each battle, this flag led the army. During Hazrat Umar's reign, this flag came into the hands of Muslims. The precious jewels on this banner were distributed, and the cloth was burned.
