kushtan-e-vazīr kHveshtan rā dar ḳhalvat
How the vizier killed himself in seclusion.
baa'd azaañ chal roz dīgar dar ba-bast
ḳhvesh kusht-o-az vujūd-e-ḳhud barast
After that, he shut the door for other forty days
(and then) killed himself and escaped from his existence.
chūñki ḳhalq az marg-e-ū āgāh shud
bar-sar-e-gorash qiyāmat-gāh shud
When the people learned of his death, there came
to pass at his grave the scene of the Resurrection.
ḳhalq chandāñ jam' shud bar gor-e-ū
hū kunāñ jaama darāñ dar shor-e-ū
So great a multitude gathered at his grave,
tearing their hair, rending their garments in wild grief for him,
kaañ 'adad rā ham ḳhudā dānad shumurd
az 'arab vaz turk vaz rūmī-o-kurd
That only God can reckon the number of them
—Arabs and Turks and Greeks and Kurds.
ḳhāk-e-ū kardand bar sarhā-e-kHvesh
dard-e-ū dīdand darmāñ jā-e-kHvesh
They put his (grave's) earth on their heads;
they deemed anguish for him to be the remedy for themselves.
aañ ḳhalā.iq bar-sar-e-gorash mahe
karda ḳhuuñ rā az do chashm-e-ḳhud rahe
During a month those multitudes over his grave made
a way for blood from their eyes (shed tears of anguish).
