makr-e-digar andekHtan-e-wazir dar izlal-e-qaum
makr-e-dīgar andekHtan-e-vazīr dar izlāl-e-qaum
How the vizier started another plan to mislead the (Christian) folk.
makr-e-dīgar aañ vazīr az ḳhud ba-bast
vaa'z rā ba-guzāsht-o-dar kHalvat-nashist
The vizier formed in his mind another plan:
he abandoned preaching and sat alone in seclusion.
dar murīdāñ dar fa-kand az shauq soz
buud dar ḳhalvat chahal panjāh roz
He inspired ardour in his disciples from (their) longing
(to see him); he remained in seclusion forty or fifty days.
ḳhalq dīvāna shudand az shauq-e-ū
az firāq-e-hāl-o-qāl-o-zauq-e-ū
The people became mad from longing for him and on account of
being separated from his (spiritual) feeling and discourse and intuition.
lāba-o-zārī hamī kardand-o-ū
az riyāzat gashta dar ḳhalvat do tū
They were making supplication and lament,
while he in solitude was bent double by austerities.
gufta īshāñ niist mā rā be-tu nuur
be-'asā kash chuuñ buvad ahvāl-e-kūr
They said, Without thee we have no light:
how (what) is the state of a blind man without a leader?
az sar-e-ikrām-o-az bahr-e-ḳhudā
besh aziiñ mā rā ma-dār az ḳhud judā
By way of showing favour (to us) and for God's sake,
do not keep us parted from thee any longer.
mā chu tiflānem-o-mā rā daaya tū
bar sar-e-mā gustarāñ aañ saaya tū
We are as children and thou art our nurse:
do thou spread over us that shadow (of thy protection).
guft jānam az mohibbāñ duur niist
lek bairūñ āmdan dastūr niist
He said, My soul is not far from them that love (me),
but there is no permission to come forth.
aañ amīrāñ dar shafā'at āmadand
vaañ murīdāñ dar shanā'at āmadand
Those amírs came for intercession,
and the disciples came in reproach,
kiiñ che bad-bakHtīst mā rā ai karīm
az dil-o-dīñ māndah mā be-tū yatīm
Saying, O noble sir, what a misfortune is this for us!
Without thee we are left orphaned (deprived) of our hearts and our religion.
tū bahāna mī kunī-o-mā za dard
mī zanem az soz-e-dil dam-hā-e-sard
Thou art making a pretence while we in grief are heaving
cold (fruitless) sighs from the burning heat of our hearts.
mā ba-guftār-e-kHudat ḳhū karda aim
mā za shīr-e-hikmat-e-tū ḳhurda aim
We have become accustomed to thy sweet discourse,
we have drunk of the milk of thy wisdom.
allah allah iiñ jafā bā mā ma-kun
ḳhair kun imroz rā fardā ma-kun
Allah! Allah! do not thou (O vizier) treat us with such cruelty:
show kindness to-day, do not (put off till) to-morrow.
mī dehad dil mar turā kiiñ be-dilāñ
be-tū gardand ākHir az be-hāsilāñ
`Does thy heart give to thee (consent) that these who have lost their hearts
(to thee) should at last, being without thee, become (numbered) amongst them that have nothing left?
jumla dar ḳhushkī chu maahī mī tapand
aab rā ba-gushā za ju bardār band
They all are writhing like fishes on dry land:
let loose the water, remove the dam from the stream.
ai ki chuuñ tū dar zamāna niist kas
allah allah ḳhalq rā fariyād-ras
O thou like whom there is none in the world,
for God's sake, for God's sake, come to the aid of thy people!
