عربی کا گیارھواں ، فارسی کا تیرھواں اور صوتی اعتبار سے اُردو کا چھبیسواں حرف جیسے زاے معجمہ ، زاے منقوطہ اور زاے ہوّز کہتے ہیں. اِس کا تلفظ عربی اور فارسی میں ’’زا‘‘ اور اُردو میں ’’زے‘‘ ہے. حسابِ جُمل میں اس کے سات عدد ہیں. تقویم میں یہ شنْبہ اور برج عقرب کی علامت ہے. یہ حرف شمسی ہے. ہندی اور سنسکرت میں یہ حرف نہیں ہے.
