    sāqī-e-farḳhunda-rū ḳhez va ba-deh jaam

vaz mai-e-ḳhud mast kun iiñ dil-e-nākām

Blessed cupbearer, arise and pass the goblet on,

And with this wine gladden the sorrowing heart,

till it is enraptured and overflowing.

dar rāh-e-ishqat agar ḳhalq malāmat kunand

    lek che parvāna-e-nañg chuuñ man-e-bad-nām

If the world reproaches me for walking in your love’s path,

    let it do so—

For what shame or disgrace can touch one already branded infamous?

    qibla-e-man rū-e-tū ka.aba-e-man kū-e-tust

    basta-am az muddatae bahr-e-tū ehrām

Your face is my qiblah, your street my Ka‘bah,

For long have I donned the ihrām in your name.

    az ātish-e-husn-e-ruḳhash soḳhta-am ai sabā

    kun ḳhabar az hāl-e-man sarv-o-gul-andām

O zephyr, tell that cypress-statured beloved of my state,

For I am already consumed by the flame of his radiant face.

'ahmad' agar ai sanam lā.eq-e-in.ām niist

az karam-e-ām-e-ḳhvesh ḳhaas kun iiñ aam

And O beloved, if Ahmad be unworthy of reward,

Then by your special grace, make this common one your chosen.
