MORE BYAli Hussain Ashrafi
shah-e-ḳhūbān-e-man rañgīñ qabā nāzuk adā dārad
bahr ġhamza bahr 'ishva jahāne mubtalā dārad
My radiant beloved, robed in colours, adorned with subtle grace,
Enslaves the world with each glance, each delicate motion.
ba-sad nāz-o-karishma shoḳhī-e-lā-intihā dārad
dil-e-'ushshāq pāmāl-e-kHirām-e-nāz-hā dārad
He is an ocean of charms, a boundless garden of mischief and play;
His airs and graces grind the hearts of lovers to dust.
na dar 'ālam nazīr-e-sūratash maujūd-o-ne mumkin
che goyam vasf-e-husn-e-ū ki az ḳhūbī chihā dārad
No likeness of his face can be found in this world, nor conceived;
What words could capture his loveliness, where all beauty dwells?
na-gardad chuuñ fidāyash 'ālame kaz bahr-e-tasḳhīre
qad-e-rā'nā ruḳh-e-zebā jamāl-e-dil-rubā dārad
Tall in form, fair of face, with a charm that seizes the soul,
He holds the world captive, and all would die at his feet.
bar qasm-e-jāñ fidā sāzam ba-zer-e-pā-e-ū ḳhandāñ
agar az ḳhvāhish-e-ḳhud yār-e-man qatlam ravā dārad
If he should will my death,
I would yield it joyfully, smiling beneath his tread.
ma-purs az 'ashrafī' ahvāl-e-ū dar 'ishq-e-tū chuuñ ast
ki aañ bechāra andar siina dard-e-lā-davā dārad
Do not ask after Ashrafi’s heart in your love;
He bears within his breast a torment without cure.
