Munawar Shah Hamil Warsi's real name was Akhtar Mir. He was born on June 12, 1915 in a distinguished family from Amritsar city of Punjab. He was the youngest child of his parents and educated at a local Madrasa. After doing B.A and B.L, he started practicing law in the Supreme Court of Lahore that he continued till the last day of his life. He was a successful lawyer as well as an internationally active social worker. He was engaged in social work till 1930. In 1937 he became associated with the Muslim League. Hamil Warsi had a great devotion to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani from the very beginning. On January 20, 1950, Oghat Shah Warsi granted Ihram to Akhtar Mir and also included Hamil Warsi in his circle of disciples. Hamil Warsi was a prominent poet of Lahore city. Like other Warsi poets, he also predominantly recited ghazals. The element of Sufism is prevailing in your poems. Apart from poetry, he also had command over prose. Among his prose works, Taarif-e-Warsia, Taarif-e-Bedam, Ta'ruf-e-Aughat, Guldasta-e-Warsi, Al-Faqir, and Hayat-e-Munawar are very famous. He passed away on December 31, 1989, and is buried at Darbar Waris, Ravi Road, Lahore.
