Profile of Muqimi
Only this much known about this poet that he was born in Asmabad (northern Iran). Traveling with his father, he reached Shiraz (South Iran) and from there came to Bijapur. His real name was Mirza Muhammad Muqim ‘Muqimi’. He completed his poem 'Chandarbadan va Mahiyar' in 1627 AD. This is a love story in which a Muslim merchant, Mahiyar (Muhiuddin), falls in love with Chandrabadan, a Hindu princess. They do not get married due to social opposition and both die in agony. Muqimi is a unique poet who neither praises a king nor does he self-praise like Vajahi and Ghawwasi.
