gaahe ki dilam hisāb-e-kirdār kunad
chandīñ ġham-o-andoh ba-ḳhud yaar kunad
pesh az nafase na dīdam iiñ kaar kunad
kaare ki nadāmat dehad inkār kunad
The moment my heart takes stock of its deeds,
So much grief and remorse crowd around it ;
Not even for a moment does it pay heed to it,
That it should give up a thing that brings regret.
