Profile of Sadiq Dehlvi
Born on 12 June 1926, Sadiq Dehlvi's full name was Muhammad Yasin Khan and his father's name was Haji Ameer Khan ibn Abdul Ghani Khan Auliya. Sadiq's was only elementarily educated, but the hard work of perfect teachers and Sufis made him a scholar of poetry as well as theology. Although Sadiq Dehlvi was a poet but poetry was not his source of livelihood. Most of all, his virtuous life was commendable. He went on Haj twice and then he traveled to Najaf Ashraf, Karbala, Mali, Baghdad, Kufa, Basra. Sadiq had the fortune of swearing allegiance to Khwaja Muhammad Hassan Jaha'ngiri. Sadiq's poetry was also frequently broadcast on radio. He used to be accompanied by a number of poets of Naa't and Sufis, therefore, he had a Sufistic temperament. His circle of followers and disciples, too, was very large, and they helped Sadiq’s poetry claim the pinnacle of fame among commoners and elites. Sadiq Dehlvi passed away on Sunday evening, June 22, 1986 at Gali Masjid, Mir Crore, Gali Qasim Jan, Lal Kunwa'n, Delhi.
