Amjad Hyderabadi's was born Syed Ahmed Hussain and wrote under the pen-name Amjad. He was born in Hyderabad in 1886. His father's name was Syed Rahim Ali and his mother's name was Sofia. He received his early education from his mother. After that he studied religion for six years in Jamia Nizamiya. He studied philosophy with Abdul Wahab Bari and Syed Ali Shostri. He got married at the age of eighteen to Sheikh Miran Sahib's daughter Mehboob Al-Nisa, and had one daughter with her, Azam Nisa. He taught at Bangalore City High School in the early days and then got a job in the Accounts Office, Hyderabad. In 1908, a catastrophic flood in the Musa River left Amjad desolate. The wrath of this flood deprived him of his home and family. This tragic event had a profound effect on his life due to which he wrote the poem "Qiyamat-e-Sughra". Amjad retired from his job in 1932. In the beginning of poetry, Amjad Hyderabadi studied Diwan-e-Nasikh attentively. In 1907, he published his first collection of poetry, Rubaiyat-e-Amjad, on the initiative of Maulvi Zafar Yab Khan. Amjad was fluent in Urdu, Arabic and Persian, the effects of which can be seen in his early poetry. He was a popular poet of Rubaiyat. And his quatrains ensued social reforms. Amjad's writings also reflect mysticism, realism and the humanism. He passed away on March 29, 1961 in Hyderabad and was buried in Hazrat Syed Shah cemetery.
