Profile of Hafeez Hoshiarpuri
Born Sheikh Abdul Hafeez Saleem on January 5, 1912 in Dewanpur, Jhang District, he wrote under the pen-name Hafeez. His hometown was Hoshiarpur. He received his early education at Islamia High School, Hoshiarpur. He obtained an BA and MA in Philosophy in 1936, and held responsible positions at All India Radio's Lahore and Bombay stations. After the partition of India, he retired from the post of Deputy Director General, Radio Pakistan. He tried his hand at all genres of poetry, and had a distinct identity in composing chronograms. He died January 10, 1973, in Karachi. The collection of works "Maqam-e-Ghazal" was published after his death.
