Born Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din Khan Sadiq Jang in Hyderabad, he wrote under the pen name Hilm. His Thumris are very popular among the audiences. Nawab Fasahat Jang Bahadur Jalil Hassan Jalil writes in his Tareeqah about Hilm, “I have examined his works carefully. There are more than one hundred Thumris in his collection, in almost every Raga. His knowledge of music is remarkable. Hilm's work is very subtle and valuable in every respect.”
