Devoted to the Warsia Sufi order, Mastana Jamal Shah was born into a scholarly and literary family in Makas, Rajasthan. Unlike some other Sufis, he was independent of any linguistic, creed, or cultural discrimination. There was not a hint of fabrication in his personality. A collection of his works has been published under the title "Aa-e-Jamal".
