Born Hakim Fariduddin he wrote under the pen name Jami. He was born on 19th February 1919 in Pathan Toli of Jagdishpur town of Bhojpur. His father Hakim Abdul Majeed Warsi was a physician as well as a literary and social worker. From a very young age, Jami Warsi was highly intelligent and astute. Nature had also endowed him with immense eloquence. He received his early education from Wahidia Madrasa, Ara. He entered the Medical College, Patna, and then entered the Medical College, Delhi. After obtaining a medical degree in 1941, he returned to his native Jagdishpur and formed a series of clinics. He also continued composing poetry all this while. He had been inclined towards poetry since his stay in Delhi. He was a student of Afqar Mohani. Jami's poetry is a beautiful mirror of the expression of a person's inward and outward experiences. In his poetic works, love and affection abound. He was closely associated with the All India Radio Station, Patna, for almost 30 years. Apart from Hamd and Naat, he also recited ghazals and Manqabat and used to publish them in various magazines and journals. Zeenat-e-Hayat is the crown jewel of Jami's poetry and prose writings. In his Hindi Kalaam, Armaghan-e-Sukhan, Muntakhab Waqiat-e-Karbala, Naat-e-Rasool Ka Nadir Tuhfa, are important.
