The birthplace and the workplace of Mehboob is said to be Alipura, which is a small village located 16 km from Naugaon on the Chhatarpur-Mau-Ranipur road. But at one time it was the only avoidance state in the princely states of Bundelkhand. His birth is stated to be 1760 Samvat and he composed around Samvat 1790. His poetry is composed largely in Braj, and the influence of ritual poetry is also clearly manifest in his works.
